A year covering Head of Web Development. When the 2023 ransomware attack took core systems offline, I led the web team's interim response in the hours and days that followed.
Challenge
Senior leadership cover at a national institution: a web development team needing direction, and delivery held to public-sector accessibility standards. Then, in October 2023, a ransomware attack took core infrastructure offline.
Approach
Hands-on technical leadership: architecture decisions, code review and mentoring, with delivery held to WCAG accessibility standards. When the attack hit, I coordinated the web team's interim response, scoped to standing the public web layer back up while the forensic investigation and the wider rebuild ran separately.
Outcome
A web development team in better shape than I found it, the public web layer stabilised through the incident, and a leadership gap covered for a full year.
